I'm a full-time freelance journalist fascinated by topics related to people and places: culture, travel, lifestyle, religion, the environment, and cities.

My reporting and essays have appeared in TIME, The New York Times, Mental Floss, Ms., The Atlantic Cities, The Guardian, The Daily, Salon, & Sojourners.
I've also appeared as a guest on American Public Media's The Story.

I live in downtown San Francisco with my husband Andreas Haugstrup Pedersen, our catness Malcolm, and the occasional foster dog. I received my master's degree from Emerson College in 2008.
